Report by H&H:
New interest for the Suffolk breed created a strong selling trade at the annual sale of in lamb females from the Cairness flock of Jimmy Douglas. Also this day were consignments from the Stockton flock of Messrs Sinnett and from the Hazeltree flock of County Turf Ltd, together with the Dispersal Sale of the Wells flock of Messrs Sleigh.
Buyers were attracted from Inverness, Aberdeenshire in the north down to Devon in the south. Also from both the north and south of Ireland and Europe.
Leading the sale at 12,000gns was a shearling gimmer from the Cairness flock. She was an ET daughter of Cairness Just The Best and carries the Muiresk Zidane breeding in her mothers pedigree. She sold in lamb to Cairness Liam and went to Dan Tynan of Co.Laois, Eire to form a new flock.
Following at 6,000gns was a ewe lamb shown by Messrs Sinnett. This January born single lamb, sired by Morris Lee and out of a Cairness Impact bred daughter, was knocked down to a joint purchase from Dan Tynan of Eire and Jimmy Douglas for his Cairness flock based in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.
Next in line at 2,000gns was a pair of gimmers from the Cairness flock. First to capture the 2,000gn mark was an embryo daughter of Cairness Almighty The Second and out of a Crosemanor Commandeur sired mother who was grand-dam of the Edinburgh Champion sold earlier this season. This lady sold in lamb to Cairness Caeus and joins the Biffie flock for J & L Scott of Peterhead, Aberdeen.
Also reaching 2,000gns was the second Cairness gimmer entry, a Cairness Cold Play sired gimmer and bred from one of the best breeding ewe of the breed a Muiresk Manat daughter. She also sold in lamb to Cairness Caeus and goes to E Williams for this Gweirglodd flock near Llanfairpwll.
Selling for 1,900gns was a two shear ewe from the Cairness pen. Sired by Cairness Just The Best and bred from a Collessie Cut Above mother, this embryo ewe sold carrying Cairness Achievement sired lambs. She travels to Southern Ireland for Oliver Dean of Co.Kildaire, Eire.
Local breeder Darren Jones of the Thurston flock based on the outskirts of Carlisle paid 1,800gns for a daughter of the 68,000gn Muiresk Kings of Diamonds. This two shear ewe, out of a Cairness Cellnet bred mother, also sold in lamb to Cairness Caeus.
Also selling for 1,800gns was a ewe lamb from the Stockton flock. Sired by Rhaeadr Radar, and going back to Wells Extra Special on the mother pedigree, this stylish lady was knocked down to MW Waycott for this Longridge flock based in Devon.
Leading the Wells dispersal flock sale was a ewe lamb selling for 1,800gns. This was a Whitestone Warrior bred daughter and is out of a Glenho Royal Edition sired mother going back to Strathisla Kingsway on her pedigree. She was sold to Jimmy Douglas for his Cairness flock.
The top price for the Hazeltree flock was 750gns for a two shear ewe sired by Solwaybank Sovereign and bred from a Cairness U’ll Do mother. She sold in lamb to Cairness Just Lucky and sold to JGb & GM Redmayne of Staveley, Kendal.
