The championship in today’s pre-sale show at the National Suffolk Sale,Shrewsbury, has gone to Jimmy Douglas’ Cairness flock.
Taking top honours was 33H:11:026, the Baileys Bacchus son which won the ram class earlier in the day. This one is out of a dam by Cairness Renovator which is sister to the dam of last year’s Shrewsbury champion.
Reserve overall was the second prize ram lamb from the same class from Myfyr Evans’ Rhaeadr flock. He is a Baileys Brigadier The Second son out of a dam by Thurston Calzaghe. This one is Myfyr’s first in the catalogue, A12: 11:068 and goes back to a 6500gns Baileys ewe.
Taking the group of three class was Myfyr Evans with his trio, two Baileys BMW sons and one Baileys Brigadier The Second son (lots 143, 144 and 145). Second group of three went to Robbie Wilson, Strathisla, with one by Strathisla Sea Bird, another by Cairness Stockbroker and one by Glenhead Golden Phoenix (lots 153, 154 and 155). Third place here went to John Sinnett, Stockton, with a pair by Stockton Thriller The Second and one by Stockton Lad The Second (lots 92,94 and 96).
In the best Gigot class the winner was Stuart Davies, Beaufort, with a Glenhead Golden Phoenix son out of a dam by Strathisla Massa, this was LTD:11:016.
Second in this class was Ross Lawrence, Roundacre, with a Strathbeg Stan The Man son out of a dam by Glenho Gurka, and third was George Stuart, Birness, with a Rhaeadr Flash Harry son out of a dam by Castlewellan Crackshot.
Judging has been going well this afternoon at the National Suffolk Show and Sale at Shrewsbury and I’ve got a spy handily placed bringing me updates, so here are the results so far for those of you, like me, unable to get there this year.
Winning the single ram lamb class was Jimmy Douglas, Cairness, with his first lamb in the catalogue 33H:11:026. This is a Baileys Bacchus son out of a dam by Cairness Renovator which is sister to the dam of last year’s Shrewsbury champion.
Second in this class was Myfyr Evans with a Baileys Brigadier son out of a dam by Thurston Calzaghe. This one is Myfyr’s first in the catalogue, A12: 11:068 and goes back to a 6500gns Baileys ewe.
Third in this classs was George Stuart, Birness, with a Rhaeadr Flash Harry son out of dam by Castlewellan Crackshot. He is 1W:11:040 and goes back to Crosemanor Delboy.
In the recorded ram lamb class the winner was Willie Tait, Burnview, with T86:11:070, a Forkins Ferrari II son out a dam by Burnview Beamer which has grossed sons to 24,000gns so far. He has an index of 2.97.
Second to him was a Stockton Stardust son from Charles Procter, Conveth, with an index of 2.44, this one DYH:11:038 is out of a dam by Strathisla Schumacher.
Third place in this class went to Roger and Michael Weaver, Perrinpit, with a son of homebred sire Perrinpit Lancelot, P50:11:059. He is out of a dam by Cairnton Champion and has an index of 2.81.
The shearling ram class saw Charles Harding and family take the top spot, with first place going to a Cairness Impact son, 239:N90. This one is out of a Perrinpit Pinacle daughter and has an index of 2.21.
Second to him was one from Sarah Hogarth. This was A12: N118, a ram bred by Myfyr Evans and sired by Baileys Brigadier the Second. He is out of a dam by Thurston Calzaghe.
