Report fom Cairness Sale (Carlisle); top of 12,000gns

By Jonathan Long

I’ve now got a full report from Saturday’s Suffolk sale at Carlisle, so here is an updated account of the trade.

Selling for  the day’s top price of 12,000gns was a shearling ewe from Jimmy Douglas’ Cairness flock. This one is an ET sister to both Cairness Achievement and 65,000gns Cairness Castello. This one, 33H L70, is by Cairness Just the Best and out of a dam by Muiresk Zidane. She sold in-lamb to Cairness Liam and heads to Eire to Dan Tynan, Doon, Montraith. Mr Tynan’s livestock enterprises are of course managed by Pat Greaney, formerly farm manager for Tom Bailey.

At 6000gns was a ewe lamb from John Sinnett’s Stockton flock, 72H N122, she is sired by Morris Les and out of a dam by Cairness Impact. This one sold in a two way split, with Jimmy Douglas and Dan Tynan each taking a half share in her.

A pair from Cairness then sold at 2000gns, with the first being the first of Jimmy Douglas’ shearlings, 33H L65. Sired by Cairness Almighty the Second and out of a dam by Crosemanor Commandeur which was bred in the Glenisla flock of the late Gordon Wilson, she was sold in lamb to Cairness Caeus. She was bought by J and L Scott, Maud, Peterhead.

Next best from Cairness was a 1900gns sale for a one-crop ewe by Cairness Just the Best, 33H K53. She is ET bred out of an 11,000gns Laurelbank ewe by Collessie Cut Above and sold in lamb to Cairness Achievement. She went to Oliver Dean, Co Kildaire.

Then at 1800gns was an ET bred daughter of Muiresk King of Diamonds out of a dam by Cairness Cellnet. She was in lamb to Cairness Caeus and went to D Jones, Thurstonfield, Carlisle.

At the same money was another ewe lamb from Stockton, 72H N6. She is by Rhaedr Radar and out of a dam by Stockton Eric. Buying this one was Michael Waycott, Ashburton, Devon. And also at this price was the top prices lot from the Wells flock dispersal for the Sleigh family. This was a ewe lamb by Whitestone Warrior and out of a dam by Glenho Royal Edition. She headed back to Aberdeenshire with Jimmy Douglas.
